About The Position

The Histotechnologist I prepares tissue slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, following established policies and procedures. The role performs routine and non-routine histology activities and is capable of carrying out all responsibilities of a Histotechnician I and II. Duties may also include immunohistochemistry procedures. The position is based in Tucker, Georgia, and is scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Pay starts at $34.00 per hour; offers depend on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market factors, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.

Requirements

AA or AS degree, or equivalent training and experience.
1–3 years of experience as a Histotechnician.
HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification.

Responsibilities

Accession and label tissue samples and process associated paperwork for accessioning and reporting.
Process tissue and embed processed tissue in paraffin.
Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining and coverslip stained slides manually or by automated means.
Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures; obtain and validate tissue used in special stains; and perform all special stain procedures.
May prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures, obtain and validate IHC control material, and perform IHC testing.
File finished blocks and slides.
Perform routine equipment maintenance and cleaning and troubleshoot minor equipment failures.
Document remedial actions, including repairs or repeated tests.
Follow laboratory quality-control policies and document quality-control activities.
Meet corporate safety, quality-control, and quality-assurance standards and comply with local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
