About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician to join our team in Cincinnati, OH. This is a per diem position, meaning work is scheduled as needed. The typical work schedule involves starting between the hours of 12p - 2p and ending between 8p - 10p. The role involves processing human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination, performing technical duties for histopathological slide production, and preparing slides of surgical specimens. Responsibilities include sectioning embedded tissue, mounting sections on slides, performing immunohistochemical tests, processing sections through staining procedures, and embedding specimens. Accurate and timely reporting of test results is crucial for quality patient care. The position also requires operating and maintaining instruments, performing and documenting equipment maintenance, recording log data, and conducting preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Adherence to quality control policies, specimen handling procedures, and problem documentation/resolution is essential.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 3 months or more of histology experience
  • 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed
