The work shift is UR - Evening. The compensation range is $31.82 - $41.37 per hour. Individual salaries will be determined by factors including market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise, and internal equity.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in applied sciences in Histology or Medical Laboratory Technology required
• Completing an Associate degree program in a natural science or a clinical laboratory science, and coursework acceptable to the NYSED required
• Theoretical insight, moderate skill, judgement, and knowledge of principles and methods of Histotechnology required
• Histotechnician, NYSED Licensure required upon hire or NYS Medical Laboratory Technician Licensure upon hire required

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a histology technician preferred
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of anatomy, histology, and chemistry preferred

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist including grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and processing Immunohistochemistry slides.
• Grosses sections of human tissue for examination.
• Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section and stain specimens.
• Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains as requested, including manual staining as required.
• Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives, and safety standards, and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures.
• Examines slides under a microscope to ensure slides meet laboratory quality standards.
• Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to, preventative, routine, and troubleshooting.
• Supports the training of other technologists, technicians, and/or residents.
• Other duties as assigned.
