About The Position

Monitors the technical functions within histology. These functions include but are not limited to quality of work, procedures and methods, and expenses. Perform the duties of a staff histotechnician. The Histology Technician possesses excellent interpersonal skills, problem identification and resolution abilities. The Histology Technician assures laboratories compliance in meeting the standards set forth by JCAHO, DHEC, CLIA and College of American Pathologist (CAP).

Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited college/university.
  • HT(ASCP) certification by American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have completed a NACCLS Accredited HT/HTL Program and be certification eligible if not certified.
  • Certification must be achieved within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing. (Continuous)

  • Ability to fully use both legs. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous)
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous)
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous)
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous)
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous)
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous)
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous)
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous)

Nice To Haves

  • If not certified, must have completed a NACCLS Accredited HT/HTL Program and be certification eligible, certification must be achieved within 1 year of hire, until certification achieved salary will be 10% less.
