About The Position

This is a Full-Time Histotechnician II position in the Surgical Pathology Department at Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MBMC). The role involves performing a variety of routine and/or complex tests and procedures on tissue and related surgical specimens for histological examination. The Histotechnician II will be responsible for understanding test principles, theory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of instrumentation. Tasks include microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation, performing and documenting quality controls, troubleshooting instrumentation, and performing special stains and immunohistochemistry. The position also requires the ability to utilize critical thinking skills and may involve tissue gross examination. The role must meet High Complexity qualifications as written in CLIA 42CFR493.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• HT (ASCP) or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

• 2-3 years of Histo (embedding/microtomy) experience
• Embedding, microtomy and IHC experience (preferred)
• Associate's Degree in Physical/Life Science/related

Responsibilities

• Understands test principles, theory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of all instrumentation in assigned areas.
• Tasks to include, but not limited to, microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation.
• Performs and documents quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
• Performs special stains and immunohisotchemistry, (manual or automated), after reagent preparation.
• Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to perform above tasks and responsibilities.
• Trained to complete tissue gross examination as needed.
• Must meet the High Complexity qualifications as written in CLIA 42CFR493.
