About The Position

Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA) is Everett Community College’s two-year Running Start program, where students complete a transferable associate degree as a cohort. The History/Political Science Associate Faculty position provides instruction in U.S. history, American government and politics, and related social science courses within ORCA’s interdisciplinary curriculum. The position works with ORCA faculty to support the program’s cohort-based learning model and shared learning outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in U.S. history, political science, interdisciplinary social science, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching U.S. history, American government and politics, or related social science coursework at the college or college-preparatory level, including grades 11-12.
  • Knowledge of U.S. history and American government and politics sufficient to teach assigned courses.
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary and cohort-based education.
  • Skilled in communicating complex social science concepts clearly in classroom and hybrid settings.
  • Ability to design and deliver instruction aligned with established learning outcomes.
  • Ability to assess student learning and maintain accurate instructional records.
  • Ability to develop inclusive instructional strategies responsive to the needs and experiences of Running Start students.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computers and telecommunication devices.
  • Ability to observe, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, both in written and audible formats.
  • Ability to exchange information with others.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing routine tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate the environments, conditions, and hazards typical of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population.
  • Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules.
  • Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course’s stated learning outcomes.
  • Develop a current course syllabus using the College’s inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter.
  • At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps.
  • Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College’s scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline.
  • Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students.
  • Complete annual trainings as required by state and federal law.
  • Read and respond to College communications (phone, email, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member’s assignment.
  • By mutual agreement, compensation may be available for participation in the following: Opening week activities, meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Faculty forums.
  • Annual commencement ceremony in June.
  • Service on committees.
  • Department, division and College meetings and be involved in department, division and college matters.

Benefits

  • Additional compensation may be available for courses that meet high wage / high demand criteria.
  • Associate Faculty will be compensated for trainings required by the College independent of compensation received for their quarterly workload assignment.
