About The Position

Clovis Community College is seeking to establish a Part-Time Faculty Pool for History Instructors. This position involves teaching history courses and contributing to the college's mission of providing quality education and support to a diverse student population. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity-minded practices and possess the skills to effectively engage and support students from various backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
  • Master's in history; or Bachelor's in history and Master's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science or ethnic studies; or A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with traditionally underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth.
  • Experience with, and sensitivity to, under-prepared and high-need students at the community college.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support and student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Engage and support racially minoritized students in the classroom.
  • Examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Work with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
  • Support students across sociocultural and socioeconomic diversities.
  • Facilitate multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
  • Work with under-prepared and high-need students at the community college.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, student learning support, and student success.
  • Utilize computers and other technologies for instruction and student support.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Apply current assessment methods and materials.
  • Understand and uphold the community college's mission and goals.
