About The Position

Performs all processes to prepare tissues for histological and transmission electron microscopy diagnostic evaluation including accessioning, appropriate labeling of requisitions and specimen containers, printing cassettes, fixation, preparing packing list for transportation to the histology laboratory, and subsequent discarding of surgical specimens. Identify and acquire paraffin tissue blocks required for molecular testing and use these blocks to obtain an adequate amount of DNA/RNA for molecular testing. Ensure sample integrity for assays such as NGS, Fusions, and IGH arrangements. Responsible for communications with physicians regarding testing. Perform quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing. Participate in assay/instrument validations and Quality Initiatives. Perform processing and specialized techniques on muscle, nerve, and medical kidney specimens. Perform staining, IHC, & Immunofluorescence on these specimens. Complete, accurate, and timely gross examination and dictation of anatomic pathology specimens. Cassette printing, bottle identification, and case number designation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience as a Histology Technician; or licensed as a Histology Technologist.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed as a Histology Technologist with 2+ years of hands-on research or clinical diagnostic experience in advanced molecular diagnostic and/or histological techniques, FISH and IHC – particularly using Leica instrument platforms.
  • Ability to use problem-solving techniques in the laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate with other technologists and supervisors.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for clinical testing.
