About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Histology Technologist/Technician/Lab Bench Tech to join their Laboratory South department. This role is responsible for assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. The position involves specialized staining and processing, troubleshooting instrument or equipment malfunctions, ensuring specimen integrity, and using critical thinking to assess and correct questionable processes or results. The role requires excellent organizational, customer relations, planning, and analytical skills, along with strong mental and visual concentration, good hand/eye coordination, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week with varied hours and a day shift work schedule.

Requirements

Histology Technologist: Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 90 days AND completion of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program OR one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology.
Histology Technologist: Certification as a Histotechnologist from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.
Histology Technician: Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program or Associate’s degree or 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university.
Histology Technician: If licensed as a Histotechnician prior to 1/1/2005, High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Histology Technician: Certification as a Histotechnician from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.
Lab Bench Technician: Bachelor's degree.
Excellent organizational, customer relations, planning and analytical skills.
Strong mental and visual concentration.
Ability to work independently with sufficient knowledge of all aspects of the Cytology department.
Good hand/eye coordination.
Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on communication.
Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management. Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication.
Excellent time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills.

Nice To Haves

Histology Technologist: Preferred: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician Program or 2 years on the job training.
Histology Technician: Preferred: 2 years' experience in histology.
Lab Bench Technician: Preferred: Bachelor's degree in an applied sciences related field.
Lab Bench Technician: Preferred: 1 Year experience in a laboratory or in medical training.

Responsibilities

Assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists.
Responsible for specialized staining and processing as requested by pathologist.
Ability to troubleshoot instrument or equipment malfunctions and ensure specimen integrity.
Responsible to use critical thinking to assess questionable processes or results and correct or present to supervisor/pathologist for resolution.
