About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Histology Technologist/Technician/Lab Bench Tech to join their Laboratory South department. This role is responsible for assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists. The position involves specialized staining and processing, troubleshooting instrument or equipment malfunctions, ensuring specimen integrity, and using critical thinking to assess and correct questionable processes or results. The role requires strong organizational, customer relations, planning, and analytical skills, as well as good hand/eye coordination and interpersonal communication skills. The position is a full-time, day shift role with a 40-hour work week.

Requirements

Histology Technologist Education: Bachelor's Degree must be obtained within 90 days AND completion of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program OR one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology.
Histology Technologist Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Histotechnologist from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.
Histology Technician Education: Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program or Associate’s degree or 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university. If licensed as a Histotechnician prior to 1/1/2005, High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Histology Technician Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Histotechnician from a nationally accredited certifying agency within 90 days of hire.
Lab Bench Technician Education: Bachelor's degree.
Required Licensure/Certification/Registration: None.

Nice To Haves

Histology Technologist Experience: Preferred: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician Program or 2 years on the job training.
Lab Bench Technician Education: Preferred: Bachelor's degree in an applied sciences related field.
Lab Bench Technician Experience: Preferred: 1 Year experience in a laboratory or in medical training.

Responsibilities

Assisting with processes and preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists.
Performing specialized staining and processing as requested by pathologist.
Troubleshooting instrument or equipment malfunctions.
Ensuring specimen integrity.
Using critical thinking to assess questionable processes or results and correct or present to supervisor/pathologist for resolution.
