The level II Histology Technologist prepares histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.

Requirements

Bachelors (Required)
Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems.
Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience required as a Histotechnologist.
Associate’s degree with five (5) years or more of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
Bachelor’s degree required to assess competency.
Florida State License as a Technologist (TN License) or Supervisor (SU License) in the area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Receives, accessions as required, and prepares tissues for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping.
Perform Florescent Immunohistochenistry techniques.
May do the following duties: Perform Immunohistochemistry, In-Situ hybridizations, Special Stains procedures, as needed.
Serves as Charge Technologist.
Evaluates complex and difficult samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining.
Serves as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff.
Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures.
Instruct and observe student technologists.
Assist in the validation, optimization, and implementation of new antibodies and special stains.
Prepares for and participates in inspections and assists the laboratory in meeting all regulatory guidelines.
Assesses competency of team members.
Performs quality control, preventative maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of instruments and stains for optimal performance.
Performs cytology processing, staining and cover slipping using accepted histological techniques.
