The level II Histology Technologist prepares histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.

Requirements

  • Bachelors (Required)
  • Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience required as a Histotechnologist.
  • Associate’s degree with five (5) years or more of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree required to assess competency.
  • Florida State License as a Technologist (TN License) or Supervisor (SU License) in the area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, accessions as required, and prepares tissues for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping.
  • Perform Florescent Immunohistochenistry techniques.
  • May do the following duties: Perform Immunohistochemistry, In-Situ hybridizations, Special Stains procedures, as needed.
  • Serves as Charge Technologist.
  • Evaluates complex and difficult samples to determine suitable methods of preparation and staining.
  • Serves as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff.
  • Prepares and evaluates stains, reagents, and solutions necessary for slide preparation following established policies and procedures.
  • Instruct and observe student technologists.
  • Assist in the validation, optimization, and implementation of new antibodies and special stains.
  • Prepares for and participates in inspections and assists the laboratory in meeting all regulatory guidelines.
  • Assesses competency of team members.
  • Performs quality control, preventative maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of instruments and stains for optimal performance.
  • Performs cytology processing, staining and cover slipping using accepted histological techniques.
