About The Position

The Histology Technician grosses and prepares tissues and biopsy specimens for Histological processing. Prepares surgical slides for review by the Pathologist. The standard of ethical and professional performance must be consistent with established medical laboratory practices.

Requirements

  • Three years histology and/or Mohs experience required.
  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree.
  • Eligible for HT(ASCP) certification, and 60 college credits to perform grossing according to CLIA regulations.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to display and maintain high standards.
  • Ability to show responsibility to the job and consideration of coworkers by exhibiting good attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to use customer service skills to provide an exceptional experience.
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others.

  • Knowledge of CLIA/CAP standards.
  • Knowledge of EMR.
  • Professionalism and good communication skills with coworkers, providers, and patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in handling confidential information as it relates to physicians, employees, patients, and external customer groups.

Responsibilities

  • Grosses and prepares tissues and biopsy specimens for Histological processing.
  • Prepares surgical slides for review by the Pathologist.
  • Differentiates dermatology tissues for appropriate embedding, cryotomy and microtomy.
  • Performs histology procedures including grossing, tissue processing, cryotomy, microtomy, and slide staining (to include all special and immunohistochemical stain procedures).
