Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field required
  • HT or HTL certified by ASCP
  • The individual must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency
  • Must be able to interact with fellow coworkers
  • Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact
  • Must be alert and energetic with constant monitoring of workflow
  • Punctual, dependable, detail oriented

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a histotech preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of reagents in the laboratory.
  • Comply with all safety regulations.
  • Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results).
  • Able to perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.
  • Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections.
  • Properly embed processed tissue.
  • Cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and running of complex automated equipment.
  • Maintenance lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.
  • QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory.
  • Perform repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures under the direction of the laboratory manager.
  • Work with chemical/biohazardous material, following all safety policies and practices.
