About The Position

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position for a Histology Technician in the Pathology Lab. The schedule is either 10am-6:30pm or 12pm-8:30pm, with a shift differential. The role involves accessioning, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissue specimens, as well as maintaining equipment, preparing solutions, and ensuring compliance with laboratory policies, OSHA, and CLIA regulations. The position requires regular attendance and the ability to perform essential functions satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities. Requirements

  • Associate degree as a Histology Technician.
  • One year minimum of Histology experience is required.
  • ASCP certification or eligible
  • Histology and the gastrointestinal system knowledge
  • Customer service knowledge
  • Word processing and/or other computer applications knowledge
  • Good organizational skill
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with EMR and LIS
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Special stains and immunohistochemistry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Accessioning of tissue specimens
  • Assisting Pathologist Assistants/Techs
  • Processing and embedding tissue specimens
  • Microtomy and staining tissue sections
  • Evaluating and recommending adjustments for processes and procedures as part of quality assurance
  • Maintaining equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols, and logging preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
  • Preparing solutions and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
  • Complies with all laboratory policies and procedures, OSHA and CLIA regulations
  • Following all OSHA and lab safety guidelines and maintains a safe and clean environment by the daily cleaning of work areas, cleaning up spills and all other duties necessary to sustain an appropriate work area
