About The Position

Frontage Laboratories Inc. is an award winning, full-service, CRO/Contract Research Organization operating over 25 state-of-the-art laboratories across the US, Canada and China. Our core competencies include drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), safety and toxicology, bioanalytical services, chemistry and manufacturing controls for drug development, and core laboratory services for clinical trials. The Histology Technician reports to the Laboratory Supervisor (Laboratory Manager or Director) and performs day-to-day laboratory activities during regular business hours in the CAP-accredited, CLIA-certified Histology Laboratory at Frontage Central Lab Services. The Histology Technician follows established SOPs, regulatory requirements, and applicable GxP and ICH guidelines to support the timely delivery of high-quality histopathology services while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Education/Training of the Histology Technician must meet CLIA personnel qualification requirements for high-complexity testing (42 CFR Part 493), as applicable;
  • The Histology Technician must hold either an associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, or bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology, from an accredited institution;
  • The Histology Technician must be eligible to be certified Histotechnician (HT), Histotechnologist (HTL) through ASCP (please see ASCP Board of Certification webpage for eligibility requirements).
  • The Histology Technician must be able to differentiate color on stained slides and ensure proper staining technique;
  • Previous at least 3 months of hands-on Histology Technician experience is required for Histology Technician holding an associate degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Active ASCP certification as an HT or HTL is preferred;
  • Previous more than one (1) years of hands-on Histology Technician experience in a CLIA and/or CAP histology lab setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accession, receive, store, retrieve, transfer, and dispose of pathology specimens.
  • Prepare tissue specimens by grossing (predominantly biopsies), chemically treating, processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, staining (e.g., H&E, Special Stains, IHC, etc.), coverslipping, and labeling for microscopic evaluation by the pathologists.
  • Monitor laboratory reagent and consumable inventories; promptly notify management of low stock levels or impending expirations, and order and restock supplies as needed.
  • Perform validation and verification studies for new instruments, equipment, and testing methods.
  • Assist the supervisor in developing, implementing, and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform quality control, routine daily and periodically maintenance, and applicable calibration for laboratory instruments, equipment, and assays.
  • Adhere to GDP guidelines and maintain accurate, complete, and contemporaneous laboratory records.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor, service engineers, and vendor technical support to troubleshoot and resolve issues with laboratory instruments, equipment, and assays.
  • Adhere to laboratory hygiene, safety, quality, and regulatory procedures at all times.
  • Participate in Proficiency Testing, maintain competency on all assigned instruments, equipment, and methods, including initial, six-month, and annual competency assessments, as applicable.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and other applicable regulatory requirements, and help foster audit and inspection readiness.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by laboratory management as needed.
