About The Position

Quad City Gastroenterology is hiring a full-time Histology Technician to join its team. The technician performs paraffin embedding and prepares biopsy and other tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist. The role is responsible for tissue-slide quality, technical and quality-control procedures, documentation, maintaining work-area equipment and supplies, safety compliance, and may include assisting with grossing. The technician also performs special techniques, including special stains, and other related duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma, associate's degree, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college or university.
• One or more years of experience as a Histology Technician.
• Eligible to perform grossing under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Registration as a Histology Technician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor of Laboratory Services.
• Prepare tissue specimens, including surgical, research, and outside cases, for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist.
• Ensure the quality of tissue slides by following technical and quality-control procedures.
• Maintain work-area equipment and supplies.
• Perform special techniques, including special stains.
• Monitor compliance with safety regulations.
• Document work and may assist with grossing.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
