About The Position

The full-time Histology Technician I will support technical laboratory personnel in day-to-day operations of the Dermatopathology, Histology and Immunohistology Laboratories in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The incumbent will prepare simple and complex reagents or media under direct supervision, receive, accession and triage patient specimens, blocks and slides. A clear understanding of the standards required to work in a Histology laboratory under CAP and KSOM guidelines is necessary. The role involves monitoring incoming phone inquiries and requests, establishing and maintaining courteous, cooperative relations with clients and other personnel, and identifying and separating specimens to be referred to outside laboratories or analyzed by other USC laboratories. Handling and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols, and maintaining, tracking, and organizing laboratory supplies are also key functions. The position requires monitoring inventory levels and ordering supplies and consumables as needed.

Requirements

  • Clear understanding of the standards required to work in a Histology laboratory under CAP and KSOM guidelines.
  • Highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with typical software packages such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Minimum Education: Related undergraduate study
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year
  • Histotechnician experience in a clinical laboratory
