Requirements

  • Completion of a certified Histology Tech program.
  • Completion of appropriate training/internship.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • CLA or equivalent training in histology.
  • Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department
  • Leadership ability, integrity, and initiative required.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Responsibilities

  • Able to perform/knowledge of all items in the Histology Competency Assessment Booklet and takes initiative to complete competencies.
  • Meets turn-around-time standards.
  • Maintains orderly filing system for block and slides.
  • Block and slide prep completed accurately.
  • Orders Histo/Cyto supplies.
  • Correct entry of information into Windowpath computer system.
  • Statistical/QA reports complete and timely.
  • Maintenance is performed adequately on equipment.
