About The Position

As a Histology Technician, you are responsible for the preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation. This includes identification of tissue samples for proper embedding orientation, tissue processing, and microtomy skills for routine tissue samples. You will also be responsible for the preparation of reagents and the performance of routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and non-routine histochemical staining procedures. The role involves performing quality control procedures on all prepared microscope slides, knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment, and maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory environment. Depending on the site, responsibilities may also include specimen inventory and archival of study materials.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and/or GED required
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience
  • Technical Skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Maintain and document the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Perform trimming of fixed tissues, and paraffin tissue processing procedures.
  • Identify required tissue sample orientation and perform paraffin embedding procedures.
  • Use microtomy skills in the preparation of routine microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols.
  • Prepare stains/reagents according to standard operating procedure and protocol requirements.
  • Perform routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides.
  • Prepare reagents/stains and performs non-routine histochemical staining procedures to emphasize particular tissue elements and analyses tissue samples used as positive/negative controls.
  • Perform quality control procedures on all prepared microscope slides.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum.
  • Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements.
  • Assist with revision of standard operating procedures if needed.
  • Contribute to innovative process development and quality improvement.
  • Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records.
  • Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records.
