Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Clinical or Histology experience 0-1 year preferred
  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcifications, processing, embedding, routine and special stains and frozen sections.
  • Must be able to perform certain special stains (i.e. Oil Red O).
  • Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Participates in relevant continuing education programs.

  • Graduate Certificate Histology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs specimen collection, accessioning and logging routines.
  • Processes, embeds, and sections tissues for slides.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures such as oiling and cleaning microtomes according to schedule, recording temperatures on various instruments, changing the processor according to procedure, and changing staining solutions.
  • Ensures aseptic techniques and observes health safety protocols during the cleanup procedure to minimize risks to self and co-workers.
  • Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area.
