About The Position

This position is considered a Histotechnician II. A Histotechnician prepares human body tissue for examination by other laboratory professionals. The person in this position performs embedding, microtomy, and all related histology tasks. This position also performs special staining and immunohistochemistry procedures, maintains departmental supply inventory and equipment and maintenance logs, and assisting histology personnel with technical issues. The person in this position performs advanced procedures and provides leadership and training to histotechnicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Over five years' experience within the field of Histology required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or other qualified technical college two year certificate preferred.
  • ASCP certification in Histology preferred.
  • Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification.

Responsibilities

  • Properly embed all types of tissue and keep embedding area clean.
  • Properly section all types of paraffin embedded surgical specimens.
  • Keep microtome and workstation clean and maintain proper QC.
  • Perform special staining and immunohistochemistry procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies, quality control records, and monthly reports and maintenance records.
  • Assist pathologists and histology personnel with technical issues and problems.
  • Assist department management with development of technical procedures and protocols.
  • Assists the Supervisor, Manager and Director with administrative functions such as ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Serves as project leader in the development and implementation of training for new histotechnicians.
  • Communicates pertinent section information/issues to supervisor, manager or other appropriate individual.
  • Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting of patient samples.
  • Assists in documentation and maintaining effective department QA programs and monitors.
  • Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
