About The Position

Yosemite Pathology is a private independent pathologist-owned and operated surgical pathology and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art, reliable, and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in several counties. YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology, and histology services, including examination of gynecologic specimens, body fluids, and fine needle aspiration specimens. They also offer an extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologists, Cytotechnologists, Technicians, and office staff who offer excellent service.

Summary/Objective: The Histology Technician is responsible for preparing slides from tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

• 2 - 4 years of Histology experience
• Intermediate computer skills
• Strong communication skills, verbally and written.
• Manual Dexterity and strong attention to detail

Nice To Haves

• Preferred ASCP HT Certification
• Associate's degree in biology or related field (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning and set up of work area to include instruments, waterbath, microtome, and workbench
• Paraffin embedding of routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens.
• Ability to produce quality sections of all paraffin embedded routine Anatomic Pathology tissue specimens cutting of all "levels", "recuts", "re-embeds" and stains
• Basic understanding of the H&E stain
• Ability to check "H&E" control for stain quality
• Daily maintenance of the Prisma stainer and coverslipper
• Retrieving correct tissue blocks and slides from storage areas
• Maintain special stain control bank and cutting control blocks as needed
• Basic understanding of the H&E stain
• Ability to troubleshoot Prisma stainer issues
• Basic understanding of Histology special stains and the tissue components they stain for, use of appropriate controls.
