About The Position

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital is seeking a Histology Technician or Histology Technologist to play a critical role on the laboratory team. By assisting the pathologist in preparation of frozen section slides, fine needle aspirations, needle biopsies, and the examination of tissue specimens, the Histology Technician supports the delivery of high-quality patient care in identifying illnesses, diseases, and other conditions.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree required.
• Bachelor's degree with 30 hours biology and chemistry and completion of National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited histology technician program OR bachelor's degree with 30 hours biology and chemistry and 1 year full time experience in histopathology.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histology certificate or equivalent from a recognized accrediting agency. Certification must be received within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the pathologist in preparation of frozen section slides
• Assisting the pathologist in preparation of fine needle aspirations
• Assisting the pathologist in preparation of needle biopsies
• Assisting the pathologist in the examination of tissue specimens
