About The Position
To provide supervision of histology technicians and instruction of students in the science of histology technique including tissue structure.
Requirements
- High school or equivalent
- Five years related experience
- ASCP Certified
Responsibilities
- Hires and trains personnel in methods of histologic technique, including frozen sections, paraffin and plastic-embedded material, special staining, immunoperoxidase preparations, and supervises their work.
- Schedules and establishes work hours for staff.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
- Directs repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Controls custodial operations.
- Develops new laboratory procedures and revises old ones upon consultation with the Office of the Chairman, Department of Pathology, or designee.
- Instructs medical students and resident staff on histologic techniques.
- Gives students general assistance, counseling, and guidance.
- Directs preparation and maintenance of teaching slides for general and special postgraduate work.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
