The Histology Tech is responsible for ensuring specimens are properly accessioned, labeled, and suitable for testing. This role involves cutting quality tissue sections, embedding tissue into paraffin blocks, and maintaining a filing system for blocks, slides, and wet tissue. The Histology Tech also processes tissue using processors, performs routine and special stains, immunohistochemistry, cover slipping, verification, and distribution of slides. Additionally, the role includes retrieving and printing computer logs, managing daily workflow, performing and documenting quality control, and executing cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instruments and equipment. The Histology Tech assists pathologists during frozen section procedures and ensures compliance with accrediting agency standards, while also providing assistance to pathologists, externs, and other team members.
