About The Position

Prepares histological specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. Performs routine and special histology stains on a daily basis. Maintains equipment and is capable of providing approved educational instruction to others in work setting. Follows all safety and infection control regulations and policies. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of age dependent expected values and assess data reflective of the patients' current status in relation to their age specific needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved School of Histology program or Associate Degree with on-the-job training in histology lab.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent or eligible or as required by GDHR must maintain certification throughout employment at Hamilton Medical Center.
  • Must meet requirements as set by the State of Georgia.
  • Graduation from high school and subsequent to graduation has obtained two years of pertinent laboratory experience in a clinical laboratory of a hospital, a health department, university, or in an independent clinical laboratory.
  • Recent graduation accepted from approved School of Histology or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination.
  • Ability to distinguish sound in low to high range to assure proper operation of clinical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with other healthcare providers by telephone to obtain or give information critical to patient care.
  • Basic mathematical skills, problem-solving skills, color discrimination skills.
  • Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patients' needs that are age appropriate.
  • Ability to select proper instrumentation / supplies appropriate for age group of the patient served, particularly focusing on the neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.
