Histology Technologists or Histology Techs are responsible for handling all processes in preparation of pathology specimens and slides. Each histologist must ensure quality assessment for patient care at all times by producing quality microtomy sections, accuracy of staining performance while troubleshooting, and maintaining a clear understanding of laboratory maintenance and safety. Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include accessioning, fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of human tissue for evaluation. The histotech may be asked to help with frozen sectioning. The Histotechnician (HT) assures laboratories compliance in meeting the standards set forth by JCAHO, DHEC, CLIA and College of American Pathologist (CAP).
