Whether operating complex testing equipment or performing routine, everyday tasks, your work will help execute more than 20 million tests each year, allowing us to serve more patients than ever before. As a Histology Laboratory Assistant, you will perform a variety of laboratory procedures and clerical functions across one or more laboratory areas. In this role, you will support Histologists by receiving overnight specimens and verifying accompanying documentation. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working 3 total days per week. Weekdays between 7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Nice To Haves

  • Histology or microbiology lab assistant background
  • Previous experience in a lab
  • Histology experience
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology

Responsibilities

  • Perform various laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repairs.
  • Perform clerical duties including answering phones, data entry and filing.
  • Perform Quality Assurance activities.
  • Maintain adequate stock of supplies; performs inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies.
