Requirements

B.S. degree in Biology or related field
M.S. degree in health sciences
> 8 years in Histology
≥ 5 years in Histology
Experience with animal tissue
Proficiency with immunohistochemistry, special stains, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and microscopy
ASCP Registered Histology Technician preferred

Responsibilities

Routine staining- use and programming of autostainer; reagent preparation; use of coverslipper and manual coverslipping
Microtomy – produce quality sections free of aesthetic defects; frozen sectioning
Special staining – follow specified procedure(s); reagent preparation, including single, serial, and concentration dilutions
Trimming - tissue identification; trimming per SOP and NIEHS guidelines
Embedding - per SOP; use and programming of tissue processors; development of processing schedules
Inventory materials; bag and store tissues
Operation and maintenance of the cryostat for frozen sectioning
QC review of slides for submission to Pathology
Necropsy - tissue identification; dissection according to SOP w/o trauma; gross descriptions per provided guidelines; timed necropsies
Work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude
Other duties as needed
