About The Position

The Histologist processes, embeds, and stains tissue specimens in preparation for routine histopathological examination. The position requires sound judgment and responsibility. The role works under the direct technical supervision of a senior histologist or technical specialist and the general supervision of the director. The Histologist is also responsible for keeping the surrounding area clean and organized.

This role may involve access to sensitive Albany Med Health System, patient, affiliate, and partner information, including HIPAA-protected health information and information regulated by federal and New York State statutes. Workforce members must access only the minimum information necessary to perform assigned duties and make reasonable efforts, consistent with system policies and standards, to protect information from unauthorized access and modification.

Requirements

• Meet New York State Education Department requirements as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or certified Histology technician.
• Be eligible for a NYSED provisional permit.
• Have an Associate's Degree from an approved clinical laboratory technician or histology program.
• No experience required.
• Perform the essential duties outlined in the annual competency assessment, with reasonable accommodations where feasible.
