The HIM Technician is responsible for assisting with all types of department functions, by providing secretarial support, and performing clerical duties. The HIM Technician must have complete knowledge of all HIM computer applications including the electronic health record and the clinical information system. Requirements

  • Complete knowledge of all HIM computer applications including the electronic health record and the clinical information system.
  • Ability to run all transcription systems to include MModal Fluency for hold queue monitoring, PS360 and transcribe all Diagnostic Imaging reports, edits, addenda, etc.
  • Ability to transcribe all pediatric echoes to McKesson which uploads to EPIC.
  • Ability to perform MONC abstracting to EPIC from Allscipts and Chartmaxx via Maestro that required edits.
  • Ability to maintain deficiency analysis workflow in EMR by assigning deficiency analysis to providers from various work queues.
  • Ability to validate all required elements.
  • Ability to gather medical records from (ER, Cardiac Rehab, Diagnostic Imaging, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors), prep, scan, index, delete and rescan EMR.
  • Ability to return medical records that are not compliant to appropriate areas, (no labels, incomplete releases, etc).
  • Ability to monitor and assist provider(s) when necessary with maintaining current EPIC in-basket and outpatient documentation/transcription.
  • Ability to run reports out of EPIC for required statistical reporting to the HIM Manager.
  • Ability to answer any and all questions asked by medical staff regarding EMR chart completion without allowing the release of any original chart documentation outside the department.
  • Ability to monitor EPIC in basket for all Proxy requests.
  • Ability to process all Proxy requests in paper or electronic format within required four business days.
  • Ability to scan document into correct record.

Responsibilities

  • Assess EMR work queues to verify if medical records are missing dictated reports (History & Physical, Consults, op notes, and Discharge Summaries, etc).
  • Demonstrates the ability to; run all transcription systems to include MModal Fluency for hold queue monitoring, PS360 and transcribe all Diagnostic Imaging reports, edits, addenda, etc. Transcribe all pediatric echoes to McKesson which uploads to EPIC. This position requires first-rate public relation skills, superb inter-personal relationship ability, and computer literacy.
  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe EMR care. Actively participates in training and educational opportunities. This may include membership in professional organizations. Performs all functions as may be assigned by the Health Information Manager.
