About The Position

The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for learning and providing assistance to users of the electronic medical record system. This role involves in-depth learning of HIM departmental systems that support the electronic medical record (EMR) through formal and on-the-job training. The specialist will handle user questions, reinforce training, and act as a liaison between Health Information Management and the UKH Healthcare Information Technical Services (HITS) Department for application design, testing, and issue resolution. Responsibilities include analyzing workflows, auditing internal processes, reporting issues, troubleshooting EMR interface errors, and educating physicians on EMR processes related to chart documentation and completion. The role also encompasses other HIM Department duties such as patient indexing, transcription processing, analysis, customer service, and release of information (ROI), requiring a high standard of quality and quantity.

Requirements

High School Graduate
2 or more years of HIM experience
Prior experience with an electronic medical record (EMR)
Must be accurate and detail oriented.
Possess excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
Must be highly organized, able to work independently and be team-oriented.
Must have the initiative to continually improve technical skills.

Bachelors Degree In Health Information Administration
Willing to work various shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates competence in critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills.
Provides care/service safely and efficiently for the care of each patient.
Learns HIM departmental systems in depth that support the electronic medical record (EMR).
Handles questions from users and responds in a timely manner.
Re-enforces training to users.
Acts as a liaison between Health Information Management and the UKH Healthcare Information Technical Services (HITS) Department for application design, testing, and issue resolution.
Analyzes workflows and data collection.
Audits internal processes.
Reports issues needing resolution to Management and HITS.
Assists with troubleshooting any EMR interface errors.
Helps educate physicians on EMR processes and procedures relating to chart documentation and completion processes.
Performs other HIM Department duties/tasks associated with patient indexing, transcription processing, analysis, customer service or release of information (ROI).
Maintains a high standard of quality and quantity.
Performs the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
