About The Position

This role involves supervising outpatient coding operations, assisting coders and compliance staff with complex cases, and ensuring accurate code assignment. The supervisor will analyze documentation, review medical records for coding errors, and serve as a technical expert on coding standards and regulations. This position also involves performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience; (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education or advanced degree).
  • Currently certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
  • A strong outpatient coding background at a senior level including coding of outpatient/inpatient charts, E/M charging, injection and infusions charging, as well as data management and coder audit and education experience.
  • Must maintain credential throughout employment.
  • A minimum of two years of people leadership experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in any of the following systems: EPIC, Cerner, Solventum, and PwC SMART.
  • Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology

Responsibilities

  • Assists coders, compliant documentation management staff, and the Internal Revenue Integrity team with complex patient care cases by analyzing documentation and discussing correct code assignment.
  • Reviews medical records flagged through the SMART (Inpatient and Outpatient tools) software for patterns of coding errors and opportunities for coder and /or clinical education.
  • Serves as a technical expert/resource for department manager, staff, physicians, administrative, and external customers to provide information or clarification accurate and ethical coding and documentation standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
