About The Position

This role is responsible for overseeing the inpatient coding staff and daily operations, including work assignments, schedules, time-off requests, timecard review and approval, and other administrative responsibilities. The HIM Manager will accept responsibility and accountability for the operations and performance of assigned functional areas. They will meet with the inpatient coding team regularly to provide departmental and organizational updates and communicate changes in workflows, coding guidance, policies, and expectations. Monthly one-on-one meetings will be conducted with each coder to review performance, provide feedback, discuss development needs, and address questions or concerns. The manager will audit inpatient coding work for all inpatient coders each month and communicate findings, education, and required corrective actions. This position will attend weekly client calls and escalate issues to the Director of Coding as appropriate. The HIM Manager will monitor coder productivity, quality, and compliance with departmental standards and implement workflow or operational improvements as needed. They will develop, administer, and monitor performance improvement plans and other corrective actions in coordination with the Director of Coding and Talent Operations. Management of recruitment, interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination processes for inpatient coding staff is also a key responsibility, in accordance with company policies and in coordination with the Director of Coding and Talent Operations. Clear written and verbal communication with the Director of Coding regarding staffing, performance, workflow, and operational issues is essential. The role involves partnering with and managing onshore and offshore coding teams, including onboarding, training coordination, workflow integration, productivity and quality monitoring, communication of coding guidance and expectations, and escalation of performance or operational concerns. Providing staff training, coaching, feedback, and corrective action as needed is also part of the role. The HIM Manager will code inpatient accounts as needed to maintain discharged not final coded (DNFC) performance within established metrics, provide coverage during coder absences, and address workload demands. Responding to inquiries from staff, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders by providing information or direction and facilitating issue resolution is required. The position also assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Coding.

Requirements

  • CPC or CCS required
  • 6-months experience in a HIM Supervisor/Auditor role required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Inpatient coding and auditing
  • At least 3-years experience in an acute care facility with experience directly related to HIM
  • 3-years experience in hospital based electronic medical record systems required
  • Demonstrates a high level of personal and professional accountability and responsibility
  • Ability to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills
  • U.S. Citizenship or naturalized citizenship is required for this position.
  • All work on all positions at Signature Performance must be completed in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii.
