About The Position

This job is responsible for daily management of DNB accounts. Researches accounts to locate required documents for coding. Communicates, educates, and establishes accountability by identifying trends, and reporting findings to the responsible user and department operational leadership, as well as to the HIM and Coding Management team. Maintains spreadsheets with trending data to generate reports for use by HIM Coding Management, to facilitate resolution and eliminate future occurrences. Coordinates and leads discussions and meetings with department leadership to communicate the issues identified in trending. Works independently with minimal supervision. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years experience in HIM or related health care field OR an Associate Degree with degree with 5 years experience in Health Information Management or related healthcare field.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills, time management skills, and strong follow-through capabilities.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work with medical staff, nursing staff, ancillary departments and co-workers.
  • Ability to prioritize daily duties, multitask, and make decisions necessary to complete all assigned tasks and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to concentrate mentally and verbally.
  • Must work closely with the management team to solve problems and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
  • Strong working computer skills with a working knowledge of health information and information systems required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedul, such as nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional degrees, business training experience and/or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.
  • Experience in HIM Dept with an electronic medical record.
  • Basic knowledge of coding practices.
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, and/or CPC-H certifications

Responsibilities

  • Researches DNB accounts.
  • Communicates with appropriate individual/departments regarding accounts.
  • Maintains spreadsheets and monitors work queues/dashboard reports.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Serves as Health Information Department resource.
  • Performs other day-to-day operational assignments, as needed.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Complies with the employer's Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
