About The Position

The HIM Data Integrity Technician performs specialized HIM activities maintaining an accurate electronic health record (EHR) and health information under the direction of the HIM Data Integrity Manager or designated supervisor. This includes reviewing, processing, and troubleshooting patient proxy portal requests, interface errors, provider portal requests, and patient requests to opt-in/opt-out from health information exchanges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of clerical experience required including working with calculations and phone systems.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
  • One year of medical record experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Processes health information under the direction of the HIM Manager or designated supervisor.
  • Picks up discharged patient records from nursing units.
  • Preps, scans, and indexes documents in the EMR.
  • Answers telephone and responds according to department policy.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of issues/concerns.
  • Seeks out additional tasks when assigned work is completed.
  • Provides backup coverage for other positions in the HIM department.
  • Meets quality and/or productivity expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Accurately analyzes records for deficiencies.
  • Manages all aspects of the clerical transcription process.
  • Works various work queues in the EMR.
  • Handles physician suspension.
  • Manages release of information.
  • Manages Master Patient Index.
  • Reviews, processes, and troubleshoots patient proxy portal requests.
  • Reviews, processes, and troubleshoots interface errors.
  • Reviews, processes, and troubleshoots provider portal requests.
  • Reviews, processes, and troubleshoots patient requests to opt-in/opt-out from health information exchanges.
