By joining our Project Delivery and Preservation Branch II as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Madison County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road, construction, maintenance and operations.

Requirements

  • Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
  • Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance.
  • Experience preforming preventative maintenance on vehicles or equipment.
  • Experience with general labor or trades.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Haul materials to and from job sites.
  • Operate dump trucks with snowplow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
  • Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting.
  • Operate equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, or woodchippers.
  • Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
