By joining our Department of Highways District 3 as a Highway Transportation Assistant I in Simpson County, you’ll have the opportunity to work as a team member on the highway maintenance crew.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Nice To Haves

  • Class A CDL driving experience preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of surveying, construction plans, and maintenance of roadways

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment on road maintenance projects
  • Operate a single axle dump truck with a snow plow
  • Provide flagging for traffic control on maintenance projects
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance activities, learn the basics of surveying
  • Learn to perform simple repairs and maintenance for equipment
