By joining our Department of Highways, District 10, Wolfe County Maintenance Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment including, but not limited to, bush hogs, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle dump trucks (flatbed, dump, pickup), snowplows, salt spreaders, broom sweepers and weed trimmers. Assists with beginning level engineering related tasks.

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Operate small single axle dump trucks
  • Flag traffic for highway crews
  • Assist in brush cutting and controlling operations around structures and highways
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment
  • Operate dump truck with snowplow and salt spreader
