About The Position

This position is for a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Ashland County. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications. The role involves serving the public by working to make Ohio roads safer. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as participating in snow and ice operations. The position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards and requires new hires to serve a one-year probationary period. The final candidate will undergo a criminal background check and a urinalysis to test for illegal drug use, including marijuana, which is prohibited. Registration in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is also required.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure if not already licensed.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
