About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for maintaining the nation's 5th largest interstate system and the 3rd largest number of bridges. ODOT is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Hamilton County. This role involves serving the public by working to make Ohio roads safer. The position requires obtaining a Class B Commercial Driver's License with a tanker endorsement and without airbrake restrictions within six months of the permanent hire date, if not already licensed. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing, and snow and ice operations. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement and without airbrake restriction within six (6) months of permanent hire date.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; & ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; & 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and without airbrake restriction.
  • Provide employment history for the ten (10) years preceding the date the employment application is submitted to ODOT.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing
  • Perform snow and ice operations
