About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) for Wayne County. This position is overtime eligible and requires a one (1) year probationary period for new hires. The selected candidate will undergo a criminal background check, urinalysis for illegal drug use, and must comply with federal testing regulations regarding drug and alcohol use, including prohibitions on marijuana use. Selected applicants are also required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. ODOT is responsible for building and maintaining a safe and efficient transportation system in Ohio.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for HMW1).
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction, decimals, percentages & fractions (for HT1).
  • Ability to operate basic equipment (for HT1).
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for HT1).

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
