About The Position

This position will be responsible for maintaining our state roadway systems. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication. Requirements

  • KNOWLEDGE OF TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION MEASURING TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, OR INSTRUMENTS AND STANDARD SAFETY TECHNIQUES.
  • OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS;
  • OPERATE AND PERFORM PRE-TRIP INSPECTION/MINOR MAINTENENANCE ON VEHICLES AND/OR MECHANIZED EQUIPMENT THAT THEY ARE OPERATING;
  • READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB RELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS;
  • MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES;
  • COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS;
  • DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS;
  • LIFT, CARRY, AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS;
  • STOOP, CLIMB, SQUAT, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS;
  • WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS, ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC;
  • STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.
  • ABILITY TO OPERATE MOTOR VEHICLES AND OTHER MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
  • A valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Instructional Permit is required at the time of hire.
  • Obtain a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position.
  • This position requires a valid Class (B) driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
  • Applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query.
  • To be considered for employment, applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Title 49 CFR Part 391.11.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
  • The incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain, training, certification, a satisfactorily criminal background check and any additional requirements provided by the Department of Corrections in order to supervise inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating.
  • Cleans and washed equipment.
  • Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
  • Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic)
