About The Position

This position will be responsible for maintaining our state roadway system. Through cooperation, coordination and collaboration among the OneFDOT team, you will be contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication. Requirements

  • Knowledge of typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques.
  • Skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Skills in operating and performing pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles and/or mechanized equipment that they are operating.
  • Ability to read and understand job related materials and fill out reports and forms.
  • Ability to maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
  • Must respond to emergencies.
  • Must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) while on-duty status, consistent with the type of commercial driver’s license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions.
  • Required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
  • A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
  • A CDL Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
  • Must meet the qualifications outlined in Title 49 CFR Part 391.11.
  • Must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a query once the CLP is obtained.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating.
  • Cleans and washes equipment.
  • Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
  • Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
