Requirements

Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.
Knowledge of maintenance standards and practices and standard plans
Knowledge of regulations and state and federal agencies that relate to highway maintenance operations (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DEQ, BLM, USFWS, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc., and city and county governments)
Knowledge of purchasing procedures
Knowledge of long-range planning

Knowledge of and ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
Knowledge of computers, basic office equipment, Gmail, and WYDOT databases/systems
Ability to read and interpret standard plans and specifications
Knowledge of state highway maintenance and highway construction standards.
Knowledge of specifications, standard plans, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and traffic control standards.
Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards.
Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment.
Knowledge of Safe Work Procedures, First Aid and CPR, and Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in completing tasks.
Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Response Procedures.
Class A Commercial Driver's License OR Bachelor's Degree (typically in Management)
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Specialist
Class A Commercial Driver's License

Responsibilities

Supervises the work operations of the guardrail crew for District 1.
Schedules the crew in accordance with workload and travel.
Works as a crew member while ensuring proper traffic control and safe work procedures are followed during maintenance operations.
Operates heavy equipment (8-yard Dump truck, motor grader, dozer, hot plant, distributor) to perform various maintenance duties.
Coordinates with Area Foremen and performs all work associated with snow removal operations.
Ensures crews are working safely and according to established safety policies and procedures; conducts daily safety briefings and lines out precautions for each work activity; ensures crew members have the appropriate protective gear prior to the start of the operation.
Inspects highway assets for defects.
Collaborates with other WYDOT departments regarding work scheduling, inventory acquisition and consolidation, and work completion, including occasional construction project inspection for guardrail installation.
Prepares various reports and forms needed for work reporting, budget tracking, and material inventory control.
Tracks inventory and material usage, procurement of materials and supplies within budgetary constraints.
Completes equipment and material requests for the crew and road section.
Responsible for the upkeep, service, and scheduling of equipment repairs for their crew.
Utilizes the computer to accurately record work orders, employee time cards, and material usage in agency systems; records crew’s work accomplishments.
Assists in screening and hiring applicants.
Trains new crew members on proper work procedures and safe equipment operations.
Monitors project budgets and progress, inspects projects according to state and federal quality standards, and assesses road sections and associated infrastructure for needed repair/maintenance; communicates unplanned maintenance to area supervisor.
