The Highway Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor supports the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of INDOT’s fleet, including snow-fighting vehicles, dump trucks, lift trucks, paving and excavating equipment, tractors, roadside trucks, and smaller motorized equipment. The role schedules and carries out routine maintenance, diagnoses urgent repairs, uses preventive diagnostics to extend equipment life, and helps ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. It also coordinates daily work assignments for shop personnel, leads mechanics on a limited basis, and reports problems to management as needed. The position is with INDOT’s Terre Haute Sub-District. The traditional starting salary is $53,222, with compensation potentially adjusted based on education and work experience. A current district-required CDL and endorsements, or obtaining them within 90 days of employment, qualifies the employee for an additional $1 per hour; onsite CDL training is provided. Full-time mechanic positions may receive up to $1,500 per year in standard hand-tool reimbursement.
