JMT’s hands-on Internship Program offers the opportunity to work on real projects with experienced staff in the Longview, Texas office. The intern performs various tasks and projects to gain experience in the field while applying their education. Immigration sponsorship or support, including H-1B and F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT, is unavailable for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for TN visa classification.

Responsibilities

Assist engineers and project managers with basic highway design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support.
Help prepare drawings and documents for schematic design, final design, and construction phases using OpenRoads Designer or MicroStation CAD software.
Assist with preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings.
Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed.
Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices.
Develop basic highway design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience.
Participate in team meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders.
Participate in weekly seminars and an end-of-internship presentation through the JMT Internship Program.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
