About The Position

Step into a meaningful career as a Highway Drafter with the Department of Transportation. In this role, you will help shape transportation projects that improve safety and mobility across the region. In this position, you will support the creation of highway and bridge plans by preparing detailed drawings and assisting designers. You will blend technical drafting responsibilities with teamwork across design activities.

Requirements

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of experience in a variety of drafting assignments, one of which shall have been in highway drafting, including six months CADD experience or training, and graduation from high school
  • One year of experience in highway drafting and detailing assignments including six months of CADD experience or training and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Prepare drawings for highways, bridges, right of way layouts, and related project documents
  • Use Computer Aided Drafting and Design tools and conventional drafting methods to develop project plans
  • Draft construction details, check grades, calculate quantities, and assist designers with plan development
  • Interpret surveyed data and deeds to create accurate plan sheets and right of way information
  • Work with designers and participate in meetings, field views, and inspections to support project delivery
  • Create maps, sketches, summaries, and other materials for estimates, presentations, and design records
