About The Position

We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Junior Highway Design Engineer to join our growing team in North Bay, Canada. In this role, you will support the design and development of highway infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with senior engineers and project teams to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant transportation solutions. You will contribute to all phases of highway design, from preliminary planning through final construction documentation, while developing your expertise in transportation engineering and design standards.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for highway design and drafting
  • Knowledge of highway geometric design principles and standards (Ontario/Canadian regulations)
  • Understanding of traffic engineering concepts and transportation planning
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience in civil engineering, highway design, or transportation infrastructure projects
  • Experience with Civil3D and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment and permitting processes
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or progress toward licensure

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of highway design plans, profiles, and cross-sections using industry-standard software and design principles
  • Conduct geometric design analysis to ensure compliance with Canadian highway standards and safety regulations
  • Prepare design calculations, technical reports, and construction documentation under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including drainage, geotechnical, foundations, environmental specialists, and project managers
  • Review design specifications and ensure adherence to project requirements and regulatory standards
  • Participate in site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing conditions
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with company standards
  • Identify and analyze design challenges, proposing practical solutions with appropriate technical justification
  • Support the development of project schedules and budgets related to design activities
