About The Position

Kendall Hunt Publishing is seeking a driven Acquisitions Editor to join their team. This role requires strong communication and sales skills to build lasting partnerships with college professors. The position involves travel and requires living in or near Tampa, Gainesville, or Orlando, FL. The core responsibility is to identify business opportunities, interview professors, and persuade potential authors to partner with the company. The goal is to develop interactive and engaging educational materials for lower-level, higher-enrollment courses that meet student needs and make a significant impact.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and sales skills.
  • Ability to build lasting partnerships with college professors.
  • Must live in or near Tampa, Gainesville, or Orlando, FL.
  • Requires seven weeks travel per semester, alternating with weeks working from home office and spending a full week on college campuses.
  • Takes initiative and works independently, demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Actively problem-solving and utilizing strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong desire to learn, coupled with a deep inclination to ask questions and seek answers.
  • Actively engaging in diverse subject matter.

  • Holds a bachelor's degree.
  • Enjoys spending time on college campuses.
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Responsibilities

  • Interview college professors to identify business potential.
  • Persuade select candidates to work with the company by partnering with experts in their field.
  • Travel to different colleges and universities in the assigned territory.
  • Identify business opportunities.
  • Interview professors.
  • Persuade author candidates to become Kendall Hunt authors.
  • Develop interactive and engaging materials that solve student needs.
  • Uncover new sales channels for current product lines or find new products to sell to current customers.
